playing faster and faster, use fingers other do not use, do incredible stuff… Even if the audience does not care! Because, actually, the only ones who care about this circus, are the other competitors.
The audience only cares about being moved, live a great moment…. all that is way more appealing than dazzling fast fingers and complicated chords and harmonies. I do not say they’re bad… but they only are tools. Are you impressed by your mechanic cause he can fix your car, or because he has plenty of tools?
Most of us have heard about the genius of guitarist Django Reinhart’s abilities with a very damaged left hand, BB King can say in 5 notes, what another may need 25 to say, saying those things within 5 notes can become a real challenge! And people love him for his unique personality. What are the reasons you love an artist, actor… ? Because of their unique personality that touches you somewhere inside and nurture your soul and feelings.
Develop your own style, break the rules if you want too. You are your best value, believe in you. Make things your own way and put your faith into you. Eventually your way is the best. Don’t be afraid to travel your own path and “say it your way”.
